In this episode of Flex TV, our storage expert delves into the specifics of storage units equipped with humidity control. Discover how these units maintain an optimal environment for items sensitive to humidity, the benefits they offer, and find out whether this is something necessary for your storage needs.
Today I have a question from Rebecca who wants to know, are there any storage units with humidity control? Now Rebecca, this is actually a point that’s important to a lot of us. Sometimes we store things that are specifically sensitive to humidity. It could be artwork, could be paperwork, maybe any kinds of electronics that we don’t want exposed to humidity because because they might get broken. So this is when we do need some sort of solution for humidity controlled storage. Generally speaking, Rebecca, yes, there definitely are. Whenever you see a climate controlled unit on a website, that’s exactly what it means. Climate controlled units are, generally how climate control is done is that there is a central AC unit. The way that climate control is done is that there usually is some central AC unit and it’s split into each individual storage unit to provide climate controlled units. Now, most facilities will have and offer these, although not all facilities. So you do have to check in advance and do take into consideration that these usually cost about 20 to 50 % more in rent per month. So that’s in regarding to facility climate controlled units. Whereas when it comes to portable storage, if you’re interested in portable storage, it’s a bit trickier because it’s harder to control humidity and temperature with a moving container. Actually, the only solution that I’m aware of for portable storage units that also have some sort of climate regulation are flex storage units. In flex, each unit has sensors inside and outside of the unit. They’re solar-powered and they alert to any kind of rise in humidity or temperature that that are above the norm and then triggers an automatic ventilation system to regulate the climate inside. So that protects your things better. So Rebecca, yes, there are units that have humidity control and temperature control. You can get them for about 20 to 50 % extra rent and you can find them almost anywhere. You just have to check ahead of time. However, if you do want a portable unit, I think Flex is pretty much the only way to go. call your rep and get settled in a unit today.
